"Texting" answer into poll

Do you have problem that your students like to use cell phone in the class?  They especially like "texting", don't they ?  What I am about to share is not to fix the situation, but just to integrate what students like to do as a teaching tool.  My mentor teacher shared with me a website call www.polleverywhere.com.  It is a website that you can create a poll question and your student send in their answer with their phones and the statistic of the poll will show on the screen right away.   A free account with the polleverywhere allows 30 a poll of 30 people to respond once.

Teach with Technology

I came across a website that been created by a teacher who is currently studying in Michigan Universtiy. She has shared some wonderful things in her website about teach with technology. I found it very useful for teachers especially those new one like me. Please click on the here to visit her web page.

School blocks youtube.com?

I was very excited that I am going to show the "linear equation is about real life video" to my students.  My mentor teacher told me that we can not access to youtube.com from school internet.  I insisted this is a good video to show.  Then I did some research online and found this method to copy video from youtube.com and own it.  May be some of you will have the same issue. You may pay and buy the youtube driver to download vidoe from you tube. Youtube driver gives you an excellent quality of video.  However, if you just need to do it once like I was,  here is an alternative method that can help you to show video from you tube without internet access. The quality is good  and I can still show it in the LCD projector for my whole class to view without accessing to youtube.com. This is the link to keepvid.com.
OPPS ! if you are in school and can't watch the video below. Try clicking here. I download the vidoe and repost it in my home gallery.

Integrating technology and cultural relevancy

I was preparing to teach a lesson in Math I unit 1 to graph linear equation and transformation of a graph. As I am student teaching I always look at my template for lesson plan to make sure I did not miss anything important. Then came a common questions for me. " How can I integrate technology,  teach content and also do something can related to the students culture?" It sound so impossible to do fulfill  all aspects. I went to you tube and type in the search engine "linear equation AND real life". and I found this video and I think it is the best one to fufill my intention of content vs real life vs technology,
Opps! If you are viewing this i your school and can not see the video. Please click here.
